INDEX™23 - Transportation
Driving innovation forward

Did you know that over 40 separate parts made with nonwoven materials are found in every car?

The use of nonwovens in the transportation field has risen considerably. These materials are not only used in cabin air filtration or thermal and acoustic insulation but also increasingly, due to their tactile and aesthetic appeal, as surface materials for interior panels or seating components. Thanks to their infinitely-engineerable properties and qualities such as dyeability, biological stability and even electro-conductivity, nonwovens are increasingly present in both production models and concept cars of the future.

Lightweight materials, lower fuel consumption and recyclability are key requirements today for the automotive industry, as it strives to reduce emissions, respect new regulations and limit production costs. Nonwovens are contributing to these efforts by using recycled and environmentally-sustainable products, including natural fibre-based nonwovens, recycled and recyclable nonwovens.

Nonwovens help to make cars and other vehicles (including aeroplanes, trains, boats, spacecraft and satellites):
• Lighter in weight
• More cost-effective
• More recyclable
